Coronavirus: Rules and Useful Tips for Prevention

Ten fixed points, from the indications on how to wash your hands or clean the surfaces, to avoid coronavirus infection. To finalize the manifesto, which collected the adhesion of the professional medical orders and the main scientific societies and professional associations, as well as the State Regions Conference, were the Higher Institute of Health and the Ministry of Health, which put it available on its sites to anyone who wants to spread it via social media but also 'physically', in the form of a poster or a leaflet.

Here are the ten messages of the manifesto:

  • Wash your hands often;
  • Avoid close contact with people suffering from acute respiratory infections;
  • Do not touch your eyes, nose and mouth with your hands;
  • Cover your mouth and nose if you sneeze or cough;
  • Do not take antiviral drugs or antibiotics, unless they are prescribed by your doctor;
  • Clean the surfaces with chlorine or alcohol based disinfectants;
  • Use the mask only if you suspect you are sick or assist sick people;
  • Made in China products and parcels received from China are not dangerous;
  • Contact the toll free number 1500 if you have a fever or a cough and have returned from China for less than 14 days;
  • Pets do not spread the new coronavirus.

advice of dermatologists

 "The skin can be a receptacle for potentially dangerous germs and to these can be added viruses and bacteria that circulate in the air or with which we come in contact with the most diverse surfaces. Proper hygiene of the epidermis will aim to remove the transient flora, keeping intact the resident flora that has important protective and barrier functions ". Professor Gabriella Fabbrocini, director of Dermatology and Venereology at the University of Studies 'Federico II' in Naples, explains how and why our epidermis could be at risk of Coronavirus especially if you travel frequently by plane.

Here are the 5 rules of the expert to prevent the virus:

1) "Washing your hands often when we are in crowded places like airports would significantly slow down the pathogen path, despite the fact that the airways are the main transmission route. The study published in the pages of the German magazine Risk Analysis on December 23, 2019 , would have identified a possibility of resistance for 9 days on the objects we touch. Travelers face the issue of hand hygiene superficially, for example think of the armrests of chairs, bathroom handles, check-in counters, which they are touched every day by millions of people from all over the world.Only 20% of those who pass through the airports have clean hands, that is washed with soap and water for at least 15 seconds in the last hour.The remaining 80% is potential pathogen diffuser over time between flights ".

2) "It is necessary to wash with soap and water or with alcohol-based disinfectants and dry carefully by rubbing palms, backs and the inside of the fingers. According to WHO, the formula of gel disinfectants is less effective than those that contain alcohol in a concentration between 60% and 95%. In normal living conditions it would not be essential to use these products and precautions for cleaning the hands, but in the case of frequent travel we also recommend the use of specific liquid soaps containing antibacterial substances such as for example triclosan, a substance which however raised doubts both on safety and on environmental sustainability.prolonged use of these products on people could encourage bacteria to develop resistance against these substances, increasing the risk of infections. "

3) "Cleaning yes, but without being manic. Compulsive washing can alter the structural nature of the skin, destroying the good microorganisms, with the risk of being even more exposed to infections, but also irritative and allergic dermatitis. The products based on alcohol have the disadvantage of drying out the skin a lot. "

4) "Attention to the water temperature which must not be too high to avoid extracting fats from the epidermis, damaging the structure of the hydrolipidic film, another important barrier against microbes".

5) "Do not eat your nails and cuticles so that microperitis is not created. Finally, more attention for those suffering from atopic dermatitis and have inflamed skin and therefore at risk of contracting common infections".
